Prime Minister Edi Rama has categorically denied reports from Israeli journalist Amit Segal, claiming that Albania is in negotiations with the Trump administration to host more than 100,000 Palestinians. Segal, in a post on social media, mentioned that after Egypt and Jordan refused to take in refugees from Gaza, the new U.S. administration has started discussions with Albania and Indonesia.
However, Rama firmly stated that no one has asked Albania to take such a step and added that Albania, like any other European country, can offer humanitarian assistance on this matter.
Rama reiterated his stance that the Palestinian people should have the opportunity to live in their own democratic state, free from the influence of Hamas. He emphasized that these claims were completely false and described the reports as part of a broader trend of fake news in recent times.
The Prime Minister also expressed Albania’s strong and respectful relationships with Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and, of course, the Palestinian people, whose state Albania recognized many years ago. However, he clarified that Albania is not located in the Middle East, and from its position in the heart of Europe, it cannot do more than any other European country in this regard.
Nonetheless, he expressed the hope that the Palestinian people would be able to live freely in their own state under democratic rule, and that Hamas would no longer have the ability to harm Israel or, above all, the Palestinians themselves.
